DISCLAIMER: I do NOT advocate that anyone else use Rogaine in a way other than the bottle or a doctor instructs you to. This can be harmful to your health

Before I decided to use rogaine on my face I did a bit of research to make sure it was safe. I first tried researching it on other trans pages but I found only vague references and quite a bit of mythology regarding its effectiveness.

The rogaine website noted that all new hair growth would fall out within 3 months if one stopped using it. I felt that this probably had more to do with your body being genetically prone to balding rather than any chemical dependency the new hair growth would have.

When I received the rogaine in the mail I made sure to read all of the cautionary statements. The only reasons it listed that "women" should not use men's rogaine were: you should not use it if you are pregnant or nursing, women's rogaine is just as effective, and women might grow undesired facial hair.

February 1st, 2005 started using the reccomended dosage of rogaine

First I put the rogaine on my "happy trail" on my stomach to make sure I wouldn't have an allergic reaction to it. After a couple of days I started applying it to my chin. moustache, and sideburns.

February 15th, 2005

Saw an increase in peach fuzz, mostly in my pre-existing sideburns, but also a little bit more on my chin and jaw.

Stopped using it for four weeks. During this time I found a trans website the recommended applying Just For Men to your new hair growth to darken it. I used the Just For Men on my peach fuzz and left it on for the recommended 5 minutes but I hardly saw any difference. So then I left it on for a full ten minutes and some of my hairs that were dark already got a little darker, but it didn’t do much to the peach fuzz.

I then discovered the beard board website where bio men discussed putting rogaine on their beards to thicken them. They described it as a “rogaine experiment” claiming that they has never found any evidence online that it did indeed work on your face (this same poster remarked that he had found a website about a “female” who had used it on “her” face to make her look more like a “boy”). Multiple posters said that they had used it for 9 months then stopped for 6 months or longer and none of their facial hair had fallen out. One guy explained that once the hair follicles were “activated” they would continue to grow

April 2nd, 2005 began using rogaine again. At this time I had also been taking sarsaparilla for two or three weeks, with no noticeable effects from that except that it had cured my excema.

May 15th, 2005 stopped using rogaine because I had broken out in a horrible rash on my feet. didn’t really think it was from the rogaine, but couldn’t be sure.

June 1st, 2005 began using rogaine again, this time only once a day and on half of my face. I had read on the beard board that putting rogaine on your entire face could lead to too much of it being absorbed into your bloodstream and causing adverse effects.

Conclusion: The rogaine made some of my pre-existing hairs thicker and darker. The only new hairs I grew were vellous hairs (peach fuzz). The vellous hairs did not seem to be maturing, though, perhaps they would have over time. I discontinued the use rogaine after I frequently started feeling like my heart was racing for no apparent reason. I had read that hypertension could be a very dangerous side effect, especially since rogaine is intended for use on the scalp which is not as absorbant as other areas of skin.
